Leaps & Bounds
The arches represent the running and leaping feet
active within the Field house. The juxtaposition of 3 different arcs
speaks in the simplest way of the diverse strengths
training and competing inside. One leaps higher, one runs farther,
another is good at both. The 3 compete with each other, each bringing
something else to the table. While this idea started with leaping
feet, the result also suggests the arc of a soaring ball or other
object, speaking to the adjacent ball field and other track and field
sports - pole-vault, javelin.
Stepping away from athletics, these
overlapping arches make an abstract nod to the overlapping mountains
forming the horizon around La Grande.
