Iris
Based on an iris valve, or camera shutter, this
sculpture consists of two layers of overlapping blades that expand and contract in
opposite directions when the crank is turned. The crank also drives a generator, lighting
the center of the Iris at night. Commissioned by TriMet in Portland, OR for the Civic Drive light rail stop in Gresham, OR.
